I am definitely going to build one or two, and depending on how that goes and what the total unit cost ends up being, I may build a few for others as well. I also will be gathering parts info. Suppliers, part numbers, pricing, etc. and putting it into a spreadsheet for anyone that wants to decide for themselves.
I will be building two for myself, once I can confirm all the parts are correct and working I will list each seller that I used with links. Most parts were sourced from China (Ebay) and specifically chosen for minimal cost. I will also list what programmer, scope, flux and Iron I purchased just to build these.
It would be nice to claw back a little bit of money by selling the spare pcb's with part components. (probably at cost price and without cpu and cpu socket.) (leaving some back for the TF540 obviously) :D
I will also be buying the re-locator boards as soon as they are published. they look nice :)
Sad news guys, just got a pm from Aaron Morris that there was an issue with the TF530 project. :( I've checked this on EAB; Plasmab is banned there after some bad mouthing a member in the Vampire thread. As a reaction he took down his YouTube channel and removed the github files. :( That's the situation right now. I hope that there are people out there that can put a recent copy if the github files back online.
As soon as I have more news I'll report back. If any of our members have more news please share with us.
Mo Ahaddour I'm SOOO sick of the childishness that goes on in ALL the vintage computing forums. EAB, Amibay, Lemon, etc. In fact it's why this community exists, I just got sick of it. Anyway, that's enough of that. I'll persist in supporting creators and users who follow their projects here. Including the TF5x0 projects.
Gutted too even though I had given up on this project due to costs and errors (on my behalf). Stephen has stated that Amiga followers are cancer (or words similar to effect) . I can't be dealing with anyone who has a tantrum because you are not as good as him or give a bit of criticism. I have the git hub files from 30/3/2017. I don't think they were edited between then and now.
Well I'm kind of knocked out of my socks right know. I can't understand how grown up people can't behave them self. Being polite is not that difficult though.
I created this community specifically to get away from this nonsense which has destroyed most of the vintage computing forums. It's no better in the Atari or C64 boards.
Mo Ahaddour Yeah, it's tough to go ahead and arrange a group purchase when the product is still evolving. For example, Steven has confirmed that the BOM will change for the Rev3, and that there's likely a Rev4 coming. However, now that the Rev2 has stabilized some and the firmware is solid enough to make he Rev2 usable up to 50ish MHz, I'm planing on at least getting the parts spreadsheet done so that people that want to get one together on their own can proceed.

ADR-Richard I must have missed that relocator part.
ReplyDeleteIs it an CPU adapter thing?
Yes Mo. It shifts the board up a bit. (Hopefully it clears the keyboard) Pcb has not been released yet.
ReplyDeleteThanks mate :)
ReplyDeleteDitto on the relocator boards. I believe they're necessary if you want to close up your A500 with the keyboard in place.
ReplyDeleteThanks Chistopher.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if the TF530 could fit in an A2000 & A1000 with this relocator board?
Mo Ahaddour I'm pretty sure that will require a different board. There are 68k socket to A2000 accelerator slot boards already.
ReplyDeleteThough I do recall using a CSA accelerator on an A2000 in the 68k socket.

For people still interested in the project they can still follow Terrible Fire through Twitter.

ReplyDeleteBut yeah. I'm glad I made a git pull and downloaded the assembly video before this happened. Call it a hunch. o_O
ReplyDeleteAny news for the group purchase of the TF530. I suppose that it's advisable to wait for the rev4 isn't it?
ReplyDeleteI read in EAB thread that you have a super cheap source for the 040. Can you shine a light on this please? 😀
Mo Ahaddour Yeah, it's tough to go ahead and arrange a group purchase when the product is still evolving. For example, Steven has confirmed that the BOM will change for the Rev3, and that there's likely a Rev4 coming.

Thanks Christopher Gaul we'll wait :)
ReplyDeleteWhat model of the super cheap 68040 are you referring to in the EAB thread?
Is it with or without FPU?
Mo Ahaddour updated in the thread but it's an MC68040FEnnV where nn is the clock speed. Options are 25, 33, and 40MHz.
ReplyDeleteThe 25 and 33 MHz parts are readily available for under $30 CAD.
This device is functionally equivalent to an LC part but running at 3.3V instead of 5V.
That is it has an MMU but not an FPU.
